Profile Information

How might your current work contribute to the sustainability movement?
I'm a psychotherapist and career counselor and the co-editor of Ecotherapy: Healing with Nature in Mind (with Craig Chalquist, Sierra Club Books 2009), which deals with how we heal the human-nature relationship.
In what ways do you personally identify with the Sustainability & Transition movement? Why are you interested?
I see the Transition movement as community ecotherapy -- the eco-healing of communities.
What background and skills do you bring to this community?
I've been a psychotherapist for over 25 years and specialize in helping individuals, couples and families deal with career decisions, financial issues and the transition to a simpler, more sustainable and nature-connected way of life. I'm also a writer, and have just finished co-editing "Ecotherapy: Healing with Nature in Mind" for Sierra Club Books and I edit "Ecotherapy News", the quarterly publication of the International Association for Ecotherapy (Applied Ecopsychology.) I supervise Community and Ecological Fieldwork in the Depth Psychology program at Pacifica Graduate Institute. My husband and I are graduates of the Permaculture Design Course and have a backyard food forest with 102 fruit and nut trees in a 1/3 acre yard. We jointly run the Santa Barbara Organic Garden Club.

What aspects of the sustainability movement most interests you?
The idea that by working together we can become a resilient, healthy and nature-connected community.
Your Favorite Books/Websites/Blogs/RSS Feeds for Information about the Sustainability Movement
I believe everyone in the transition movement would benefit from reading "Permaculture" by David Holmgren
