We are working on revitalizing the Rough and Ready Grange to make it work for farmers like it is supposed to. We are having a monthly Small Farm and Garden Forum Night on the 3rd Wed of every month at the Grange.Below are the details about our first meeting next Wed night. In was wondering if you or someone else from Transition Town could come and talk about what's happening with Transition Town. Or maybe you could call me and tell me, and I can mention it.
Thanks,

Networking for Farmers & Gardeners: Filling in the Gaps for Local Food Availability
March 20, 2013 7pm Rough & Ready Grange
14550 Rough and Ready Highway; Rough and Ready, CA 95975
Join us in revitalizing the Rough and Ready Grange to support local farmers and gardeners. Our first meeting will be on developing local food self-sufficient neighborhoods with increasing income opportunities for food produ
- Supermarket food may become more and more expensive as inflation kicks in and petroleum costs continue to rise.
- Many people want to become less dependent on corporate food and want to buy food locally.
- Because of health challenges, many of us are looking for organic foods that are healthier than what can be found in most supermarkets.
- As farming inputs increase in cost, many of us want to grow without fossil fuel inputs and want help learning how to do it
- In a time of emergency, grocery stores can only stock 3 days’ worth of food. Without replenishment, grocery stores could sell out.
- Government wants to regulatel food production
- How do we help make food available for our neighbors and our families, and support ourselves as farmers and gardeners in making a decent income?
Come brainstorm with us about:
- How to develop self-sufficient local neighborhoods with income opportunities for producers
- Learning what is grown and available for trade or purchase in each area of town.
- New ways of local marketing.
- Creating networks for sharing, trading, bartering and purchase
- Assessing availability of farm & garden equipment and heavy mchinery
- Local Food Freedom and government over-regulation
And learn more about what the Grange has done for farmer’s rights.

Thanks for the welcome and for your insightful comments on the challenges (and urgency) of including population in the conversation about the problems we face globally and locally. We're thrilled to be part of this community and hope to grow our involvement over time. Please also consider checking us out on Twitter and Facebook, where we also post a lot of timely and topical content, or you could even sign up for our occasional email newsletter.
Thanks again.
Best regards,

I realize it's been a long time since we last traded messages... too long, really. My life has been extremely hectic with the commute (ugh!) and the baby (aw!), but I think I'm ready to do a little Transition-minded work.
Specifically, I was hoping to re-engage and get started on the "B Economy" handbook. Would it be easiest if I just jumped right in, wrote drafts of one or more sections, and then sent them your way, periodically? I can send it in HTML format, if that would be the most helpful for you.
In any event, Happy New Year and I hope all's well in your neck of the woods.
Cheers,
Steve

Yesterday I got an email telling of the Occupy Movement's next big event: 11/11/11... what makes me uncomfortable is the choice of words/images:
Revolution is so 20th Century 'old paradigm' - a whole new wave of collaborative, inclusive energy is rising-- how do we help the 'movement' drop the 'r' and ask the world to join the 'evolution'? Dandarius: how to spread the word? You are a connected guy - if you can help get the word out - here in CA and anywhere else... I know I am not alone in this. Thank you for your thoughts and creative solutions. Peace, Julie (Ojai)
Everlasting thanks for your gracious invitation to visit you in Grass Valley. Unfortunately, logistically this is impossible. I got rid of my car permanently after September 11th - in order to drastically reduce my consumption of fossil fuel. I live in Midtown Sacramento and go everywhere walking, bike riding and public transit. There is no public transit from Sacramento to where you live. However, if you are ever in my neighborhood, please feel free to contact me.
Kindred spirits should support each other, because the work we do is "all guts and very little glory". The world can be a cold, dark, hard place - so much ignorance, venal and base - fear based thinking - so I am delighted to connect with you like minded folks who live up in the nearby Sierra Mountains!
