AUGUST 29, 2010 - Transition Movie of the Week & "Directory" Update __________________________________________________________________________
Greetings Transition California Community

This week Bob Banner and Wes Roe have brought to all of you 'Transition Cities' which is an hour long excellent show that was produced by PBS Studio 12. Host Tamara Banks takes a look at the Transition Towns movement that is working for a way of life that is environmentally friendly, supports the local economy, and conserves natural resources. This video is an excellent way to share with friends and family 'what is Transition Towns"?

Kick back and click here to watch

Also we wanted to update all of you about the 'posh directory' big idea we wrote about last week. We have gotten thumbs up from many members and a few a thumbs down. We are going to go for the up's though and we have added a new tab called " TCA Biz & Orgs " and we are ready to receive your business or organization information so we can start building it. Click here for more information on how and what to send.

Thank you to those members who provided feedback and thoughts on this 'big idea'.

AUGUST 25, 2010 - Mid-Week Big Ideas

Greetings Transition Community

It is Wednesday again and most of the house cleaning is done here on the Transition California network and as you all know when you clean a space up suddenly you realize that you have some space!

So we had a big idea of how we can use some of the space and wanted to run it past you. It was inspired by our newest member Tim Blair from Valley Ford and his website that features what he is calling an Eco Earth Yacht...

As we told you before we have been checking out everyone's profiles and many of you have some pretty incredible businesses, products, services, and organization projects that we feel need to be highlighted and easier to find.

It would be pretty easy for us to create a posh well organized member directory of sorts that gives each business a space for a logo, description paragraph, contact and link so all of you could more easily find each other.

All we would need is for you to send us a 200x200 jpg of your logo, a paragraph that describes your product, service, or project, contact info, and website URL. We would then begin building the directory.

We would be doing a quality control inspection of sorts (meaning we are not going to list spammy sales letter pages or other swag crap that we know you are not going to be interested in) and you must have some kind of a logo/photo that YOU format at the right size (300x300) - sorry but we spend enough time in Photoshop without the extra load.

Does this sound like a good idea? Would you find such a directory helpful? We do not want to invest a bunch of time into something that is not going to benefit all of you. We are really impressed though with many of the sites we visited from links on this network. If you have an organization project or cause we will probably have them all listed in another section?

Please know that this idea is selfishly motivated by us because we want to be able to find all of your websites in one well organized place - it is hard to click through hundreds of links to see what is on the other side! :-)

We are starting a discussion about this here so please jump in and give us your thoughts on the idea.

AUGUST 19, 2010 - MID-WEEK HOUSE CLEANING

Greetings Transition California Community!

Something about Wednesday's always seems to trigger an organizing and cleaning frenzy for us both online and in our house...does anyone else have that happen? We noticed a pattern of it a few years ago and it still happens like clock work...Wednesday comes along and suddenly the socks need sorting and the networks/websites we manage need updates.

We have been looking at some of the features on the network and would like to get rid of stuff that is not
being utilized as resources by very many members (if any) We don't want
to take anything off that someone might miss so we thought we would open
up a discussion here to get everyone's input.... read more here,,,,,,

We also still wondering "How Our Driving" is...quiet passengers can either be content or scared so give us a clue :-)

Cheers

We are looking for someone willing to commit to the long term strategy and development of the Sphere. There is no monetary compensation at this stage but there are opportunities to develop compensation plans with the right synergy and entrepreneurial team player. Contact us for more information.

AUGUST 9, 2010 - Transition California Movie of the Week

Greetings Transition California Community!

We put out a call for movie recommendations and Peter Zabelin from LocalGrow.org sent us links to The World According to Monsanto with the following message to the community:

"LocalGrow would like to introduce this film to the community, this is what LocalGrow is gearing its system to help prevent and we thank you deeply for all the support we have been receiving so far." ~ Peter Zabelin

So please watch the movie - although we warn you some of the information is very disturbing so keep in mind that all of our collective efforts are truly changing the status quo and entities like Monsanto will very soon be subjects of historical reference under the 'corporate extinction' category list! Looking forward to the discussions this movie will inspire....

Only 60 hours to go for the LocalGrow.org pledge drive! As we get closer to the Kickstart deadline we are feeling quite a sense of excitement knowing that often these kinds of community supported
endeavors often make it during the last minute of effort.

We want to thank Kat Steele from Urban Permaculture Guild, Dianne McCourtney from Ojai, Nick Parsons from San Francisco, and Mark Bachelder from Mill Valley for their generous pledges of support.

AUGUST 8, 2010 - How's Our Driving?

Greetings Transition Community

Everyone has seen the company trucks and vehicles with the sticker "How's My Driving" with an 800 number to call right? Well we may not have an 800 number but we definitely read our emails!

We have heard from some of the members these past 11 days since we began driving this network vehicle and we have had some great feedback and ideas like the one from Nina about how she would love to see some kind of a Transition event where everyone could meet in the physical 3D.

We would love to hear your ideas, thoughts, projects, and inspirations of how we can transition this community from being just a 'social network' to being a highly effective community. We love Stephen Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and much of what was in that book inspired us to create the Interdependent Project.

If you look at this network like it was a vehicle then of course you would want to test drive it right? So we are on a test drive with over a thousand people in the car - each of them with their own maps and destination right? Who is at the wheel? Hopefully someone(s) that can listen and pay attention to where everyone wants to go...but we have to hear from you in order to steer in the right direction.

Local Grow Campaign Update:
ONLY 3 MORE DAYS TO GO ....We want to thank again the people who have pledged their support to launch the LocalGrow.org platform.

Mary Nelson
Wayne Thompson
Jane Bledsoe
Kay Bolin
Kathryn Quinnell
Dulanie Ellis
Bob Banner
Diane Bryden

There are more than 1100 members in this community...if everyone were to simply pledge $6.60 (six dollars and
sixty cents) then LocalGrow.org would meet the Kickstart goal - pledge $10 and take them over the top!

For those of you who have recently joined you can read about it here .

With only 72 hours remaining to meet the kickstart fundraising goal now is the time to join us in sustainable solidarity to get this platform
launched and put Transition California Network on the list of 'Highly
Effective Networks".

Tomorrow (Sunday) we will be posting another 'Movie of the Week' so if you have any suggestions email us before 5pm - must be a Youtube or Google video.

JULY 27, 2010 - Greetings from Dandarius

Greetings Transition Town Community!

We are honored and privileged to be the new managers and sponsor of the Transition California Network. Bob has entrusted us with the task of the continuation and evolution of this community that he put a ton of his life force into and with your participation we can all thank him with our ongoing collective efforts.

We wanted to share with all of you a little about ourselves and our deep commitment to the transition to sustainable living. We are the owners of SeThInk Media, a digital publishing company that is developing itself as a “Common Good ‘B' Corp” and the founders of the Interdependent Project . You can learn more by visiting the websites but we wanted to simply state that all of our business endeavors and projects have ‘interdependence' and ‘sustainability' at the core. Both of these terms are in the process of being defined by our collective actions that lend to their meaning so it has been quite a learning spiral since we founded in 2006.

As we begin this journey with this community we want to invite all of you to join us in interdependent/sustainable solidarity to build this network into the online vehicle that can transport and deliver our collective visions into manifest reality.

Nothing galvanizes a community together better than collective action and purpose. During the past couple months while we were in discussions with Bob we read every person's profile to get a feel for this collective community and read almost all of the content...there is an enormous amount of user generated content on this network which speaks for the community. We all know that during this transition ‘contributing' is a key factor in our success. So if you combine action, purpose, and contribution together it is inevitable that vision will manifest.

We think we can all agree that one of the key elements to our successful transition is access to local organic healthy food. When we were contemplating ideas of how we could facilitate collective evolution among the members of this community and the overall intent of Transition Towns, we found a post by Nina Zabelin about a project called LocalGrow.org.

LocalGrow.org is being developed by Peter Zabelin and Jared Fine who have devoted thousands of hours to the creation of the ultimate free user generated online local agriculture knowledgebase website. Our research into this endeavor yielded an absolute green light of support and after speaking with Peter this past weekend we knew this was the ‘action-purpose-contribution' opportunity that could unite the Transition California community into a powerful collective force of ‘ transition '.

Peter and Jared have just 2 weeks left on the Kickstart campaign to raise the funds they need to launch this resource that is an essential component to our successful shift to locally produced agriculture:

“The site works by giving consumers the tools they need to find and connect with farms and local producers. On the business side, farmers have the tools they need—and might otherwise not have—to present their information in a central organized place to the public. Using an interactive map, business profiles and messaging, users will find it easy to get local produce.”

There is currently over 1000 people on this network – if each of us kicked in just $10 towards this project we could as a collective launch this project and put Transition California Community on the list of ‘highly effective networks'.

August 11th is the end date of the Kickstart campaign – if you cannot spare 10 bucks then at least contact friends/family/associates who believe having access to local food is important and ask them to contribute – and invite them into the Transition California family!

We look forward to celebrating our interdependent success with this campaign and many more as we transition into the sustainable future!

In Sustainable Solidarity
