East Bay Transition

We truly don't know if this will work. Transition is a social experiment on a massive scale.

What we are convinced of is this:

if we wait for the governments, it'll be too little, too late
if we act as individuals, it'll be too little
but if we act as communities, it might just be enough, just in time.

There's not an ivory tower in sight, no professors in musty oak-panelled studies churning out erudite papers, no slavish adherence to a model carved in stone.

We can't sit back and wait for someone else to do the work. It's up to us.

Does our group have its own blog for posting ideas on, or do we all use the main T California blog together? I'd love to follow some wisdoms pertinent to our East Bay.

Hi, We're transforming our large Berkeley Victorian into a shared home with resilience minded housemates. Have a nice suite with private bath available now. Put full information into Transition California discussion, but I can also send anyone pictures and a write-up if you're looking for a place end of August.. Glad to be here and learn from the collective. Thanks!

Hello Transition East Bay,

I'm coordinating with several Transition groups, Bay Localize and SF and East Bay Urban Ag groups to put together a booth or other presence at the SF Green Festival in November. Drop me a line at if you are interested in volunteering.

Hi Annie, I wonder how the Aug 24th meeting went. I was unfortunately unable to attend. I live in the Laurel District off of 35th street just past MacArthur. What was the training in SF - was it for people who wanted to start TT groups in their community?

I am not sure what is going on with this group. I was part of it at the beginning right after the training in SF, but dropped off when on line communication got overwhelming for me. I live in the Fruitvale district, and am thinking in terms of Transition 36th Avenue.

Hi everyone! I'm moving back to the Bay Area after a few years abroad. I'm trying to decide where exactly to live, and my decision will be based partly on what Transition-type efforts are going on in various parts of the East Bay.

Who would be best to ask about what's happening in Oakland, Berkeley, Richmond, etc?

Hi, I recently moved to Oakland, after being part of a Transition group in San Luis Obispo for over a year. I look forward to connecting with people and am excited about the possible Initiative in Oakland!

Hello everyone! Writing to let you know that we are mulling becoming an "official" Transition Initiative in the East Bay or Oakland (not sure which). Come to our next meeting for conversation about this possibility. 7:00 pm at 351 Santa Clara in Oakland next Monday, August 24th. Also here is a link to the new Transition Bay Area Facebook group:
